Suarez Vs Lewandowski; Who is the best?

The debate has been on for a long time across social media during the lockdown on who is the better striker and there have been mixed reactions coming out from both sets of fans why their own player is the best.

I am a Barcelona fan so their is likely to be an obvious bias in my tone on who is better ( It’s Suarez *whispers*), but I will lay out the facts on both players and leave you all to decide.

Luis Suarez:
The 33 year old Barcelona striker has offered more than his counterpart in terms of over all play and chance creation as well as scoring goals (getting close to 500 career goals).
His assist tally competes with some of the best playmakers in the world due to his roots from Ajax then, now at Barcelona.

He has played 599 matches for FC Groningen, Ajax Amsterdam, Liverpool and Barcelona. Despite his controversies and suspensions, he has managed to be the top scorer at Ajax, Liverpool and even Barcelona in a season scoring 399 goals with 230 assists to his name.

He also stopped the Messi/Ronaldo monopoly by winning the European Golden shoe twice, one at Liverpool and the other at Barcelona. Also winning 3 golden boot, one each across Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona. He has also scored 59 goals in 113 matches for Uruguay helping them to a Copa America trophy.

Robert Lewandowski:
The Polish striker is one of the most ruthless strikers in the world presently and a more traditional 9 than Luis Suarez. His major role on the pitch is goal scoring and the teams he played for have not fully required him to create also rather he waits for supply, which does not mean he cannot create when required and at crucial moments. He is also close to his 500 career goal mark which is an amazing feat.

He has played 578 matches for Znicz Pruszkow, Lech Poznan, Borussia Dortmund and now Bayern Munich scoring 397 goals and 115 assists in all competition. He has won 7 top scorer award in the league setting across all his clubs. One can question the quality of those players in the league, but his goals tally matches up to those in the big leagues.

He is well on his way to win his first golden shoe this season for the first time in his career, a long way to go but he is firm favourite. He has also scored 61 goals in 112 games for Poland but he is yet to win anything with his country side (his team is obviously not a solid one).

The gap between both players are not much, but statistically and based on eye-test (watching both players) you can decide for yourself. I will pick Suarez over Lewandowski because he is obviously better but this is just my view. What’s yours?
