Blood is thicker than water.
This is probably one of the most misunderstood saying ever as it is usually construed to mean exactly opposite of what the true saying it. Turns out the original saying is the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. [bctt tweet=”The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. ” username=”conversehouse”] Check out the actual history of this proverb it means the blood literally shed with someone is stronger than the one shared with one in the womb, in essence, the family you choose is stronger than the one you’re born into.
What then is family?
Turns out family is less about the blood flowing through your veins and more of the love flowing through your heart. They say family is the one thing we don’t get to choose in life but I beg to differ. I believe we still have a choice in the matter. Family is who you choose to share your life with, for always and forever, the good, the bad and the ugly. It is who you choose to be vulnerable with.
It isn’t perfect. The ones we love the most have the most power to hurt us afterall, yet we still love. Family is who you’re willing to walk with in spite of the hurts and the mistakes.
Family isn’t one sided. It is who is there for you when you need them and for who you’d do the same too. Family isn’t weakness. It’s the one strength you’re assured of day in, day out, because you know they’ve got your back. So wherever you find this people, maybe where you’re born into, your school, your job, your place of worship, wherever they are, I hope you’ll hold them close and cherish them for all their worth.
So with all this, who would you describe as family?
I’d really love to hear your thought on this so please comment and let’s chat!

Those who really want to see the best in you and work with you till you get there are your family. You should also be that person to them too.
Thanks also for helping with the true meaning of the proverb.
That’s a very accurate description. Thank you for reading💜
