Birthday ’21 – Coming of Age

Everyone feels differently about birthdays. Some dread them, some hate them, some are frankly indifferent about them, some love them. Me? I love them! I love the sense of a new beginning it represents.  Another reason I absolutely love my birthdays is because I enjoy reflecting on where and who I was a whole year ago.

Writing Birthday Post 20 who knew I’d spend most of my 20th year, at home, in a pandemic! Thanks to miss Rona. Oh well, 20th year was a wild one, one like never before with a lot of unexpected situations, but all in all, it was a great year and I am truly thankful. I got to do a whole lot of introspection, invested in personal development more than I had ever done. The whole rona crazy really forced me to spend time with myself and learn more about things I didn’t even know.

Now it’s on to the next. The big 21. It’s a new beginning, a fresh start. I already know it’s a year of transition. For starters, I’m apparently legal and considered an adult at 21 (wahala for who dey illegal). I’m also graduating college this year which is crazyyy! I remember  writing Birthday post as a small freshman, how time flies! Anyway, I’m excited and hopeful for the next phase of my life. Ready for the new season!

Oh one more thing, this year, I want to try new things. I haven’t exactly figured out what these new things would be but I know I need to try them, lol. So if you know me you know I’m a sucker for familiarity, when given options, I almost always would pick one I already know over a new one to try out, which is pretty much why I’d order the same thing at my favorite restaurant all the time, lol (shoutout to Torchy’s Tacos, I miss you *inserts crying emoji*)

For example, we ordered pizza on my birthday right and there was the classic cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza and then a mediterranean veggie pizza which I hadn’t had before. In my usual fashion, I steered clear of the last option and just ate the pepperoni pizza which I already knew I liked. Fast forward to the next day, we thankfully had some leftovers (everybody knows there’s nothing like a good leftover from a party), I decided to taste the veggie pizza and yes, you guessed right, I loved it! Was pretty bumped there wasn’t a lot left anymore hence my resolution to stop running away from new things from now on. So cheers to 21 years, cheers to transitions, cheers to new beginnings and cheers to new pizza flavors to try! Lol

Let’s chat below. On a scale of 1-10, how open are you to new try experiences?
