Happy Valentines day lovelies! So I don’t know if it’s just me but there seems to be much more frenzy for this year’s valentines day but it’s all good, I’m ready for all the cute posts :D.  In as much as I love love and all that comes with it, I make sure never to forget the importance of self love and wanted to share that with you.

So I wrote this piece for me and for you. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, I hope this serves as a helpful reminder to love yourself too.

They say love is the universal key

The universal language we all understand

But how can we love others when we don’t even love ourselves

How could we possibly give what we don’t have

I can’t genuinely call you beautiful when I think I’m the ugliest

I can’t feel your pain when I don’t even recognize mine

I want to help you but I just don’t know how

So I’ll start with the reflection in the mirror

When she feels ugly? I’ll remind her she’s beautiful

When she feels dumb, I’ll remind her she’s smart

When she feels frustrated, I’ll remind her the bad times come to pass

When she feels alone, I’ll give her a hug

When she feels empty, I’ll remind her of her never ending source

So she can go out there

Go out there and be the light that she is

Go out there and spread the love that she knows

She’ll go out there and cheer others up

But only because she is her own biggest cheerleader

Because a healthy dose of self love is the best thing

The best thing they could do

Not just for themselves but also for those around them

And then they’ll go out there and help those who used to be just like her

Reminding them, using the universal language we all understand

LOVE.

Typically, the human mind isn’t inclined towards watching over itself. Has to be a deliberate effort. Thanks for this!

Actually eh, just thinking about the “thin line” that is said to be between self-love and selfishness. Maybe it’s not so thin afterall 🤔
