“You’re so self aware” I was talking to a friend the other day about an issue I was dealing with and funny enough, while talking about it and why I felt the way I was feeling, I was able to come up with a solution and that was it. She commended me on being self aware and that helped see how much helpful that trait has really been.
What does self awareness mean?
Basic definition from the dictionary: Self awareness is the conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires. It is having cognition, knowledge about who you are, your emotions, and motivation behind your actions. It is being able to know what you feel and what makes you feel that way,
Why be self aware?
There are a ton of benefits of being self aware but here just to name a few:
- Relationships: being aware of who you are would greatly influence your relationship with others. A self aware person is able to accurately decipher their feelings and communicate that to others, able to distinguish their beliefs from that of others and stand true to it. Able to evaluate accurately when otherwise and take necessary actions.
- Emotional intelligence: being self aware helps you be in tune with your emotions the right way. You know what they are and how to control them. Having emotional intelligence would be of great help with not only intrapersonal relationship but interpersonal relationships as well.

- Growth: a self aware person knows their strength and weakness and is able to utilize that properly. They are able to learn from their mistakes, build on their strength and recognize what needs improvement.
- Self esteem: there is undoubtedly a certain confidence that comes with being self aware. It greatly impacts how you view yourself which also influences how you’re perceived by others as well.
It’s important to remember that being self aware is not a one- thing event, on the contrary, it’s an ongoing process, one I’m definitely still in .

Show comments Hide commentsI’m always self-aware and that’s why I’m never caught off guard if someone notices anything about me- it could be physical, emotional, and/or in deeds. I know it all. It’s a good way to progressively ascertain your goals and make amends if need be.

Self awareness could save us from many intra and inter-personal conflicts.
It also helps dissect how to relate with other people well. It should thatbe understood that, as each finger differs from others, so is our makeup but understanding each other brings harmony.
